Voices Against The Power Plant
Three Supervisors Openly Comment Against Possible Fibrowatt Project

As last week’s informational meeting stretched into the night, three members of the Page County Board of Supervisors ended the discussion by voicing their opinions against a possible power plant fueled by chicken litter.

After going through a company presentation and 83 questions collected from the public and the board, supervisors were given their time to discuss the topic.

Of the six board members, three openly chose to speak against the potential power plant coming to Page County.

“We've got a lot of great things here in the Valley we are committed to protect, and to me of the upmost importance is our lifestyle that's here,” said Supervisor Jeff Vaughan (R-Dist.5). “We desperately need jobs, but we don't need jobs at the sacrifice of our way of life.”

Supervisor Robert Griffith (R-Dist.1) echoed opposition against the project, adding the need to look more at agritourism.

Using an example of taking voters from District 3 out for ice cream, Supervisor J.D. Cave (R-Dist.3) explained his position.

“If all of you wanted vanilla, and I wanted chocolate, and if you sent me up to the window to order, I'm going to have to order vanilla,” said Cave. “That being said, I don't know that I can support this project.”

One supervisor who spoke called for further information and even a visit to the Fibrominn plant in Banson, Minn.
