Creigh Deeds and Gene Hart offer the realism that we need from leaders. They know the public services we depend on require public support. Their opponents belong to the party that, in recent years, has run on anti-government hype and tax cuts to the wealthy, as rest stops close and potholes deepen.
This would be reason enough to support Deeds for Virginia governor and Hart for 26th District delegate, but their opponents raise other red flags.
While Bob McDonnell tries to downplay the medieval, divisive rhetoric from his Regent University thesis (even quaintly boasting that he lets his wife work!), his legislative record supports it. Meanwhile, anyone who cares about local education should be disgusted that Del. Matt Lohr accepted payment from Rockingham County schools for motivational speaking. Being legal didn’t make that right, when budget cuts were slashing teachers’ jobs.
