Iris C. Davis
Iris Cash Davis, 69, of Elkton, formerly of Natural Bridge, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Willow Estates in Rockingham County.
Arrangements are by the Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory in Lexington.

Lloyd G. Kibler , 93
Lloyd Grant Kibler, 93, of Luray, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009.
The Rev. Douglas Martin will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Beahm\'s Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Fire Department or the Luray United Methodist Church.

Walter H. Dean, 74
Walter Harold Dean, 74, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, in Elkton.
Mr. Dean was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Walter Donald and Mary Yancey Crawford Dead.
Harold was a lifelong resident of the Elkton area and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an electrician by trade and a member of the Local Union No. 24 in Baltimore, Md.
On Dec. 21, 1955, he married Lillie Marie Lam, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Debra Dean Harris of Weyers Cave; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Purdham of Stanardsville, Catherine Leigh of Charlottesville and Doris Dean of Elkton; one grandson, Nathaniel Beasley; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Lakota and Kiah Beasley. Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin \"Odell\" Dean, James Scott Dean and Fred Dean; and grandsons, Anthony Eugene Beasley and Jeremy Ross Beasley.
A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Saturday evening, Nov. 21, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Travis Hensley officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends following the funeral service. Friends may also call at the home of Mary Lam (Lillie\'s mother) in Elkton at anytime.

Cynthia B. Puffenberger, 54
Mrs. Cynthia Baker Leslie Puffenberger, 54, formerly of Weyers Cave and Verona, died at 4:45 Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2009, at Avante at Harrisonburg. She had been in poor health for the past four years.
A daughter of Hensel Baker and the late Viola Miller Baker, she was born on Sept. 14, 1955, in Harrisonburg and lived all of her life at Weyers Cave and Verona. Mrs. Puffenberger was a 1973 graduate of Fort Defiance High School and attended Blue Ridge Community College. She had worked in the O.R. Department at Kings Daughters Hospital for 13 years and the pharmacy at Rockingham Memorial Hospital for seven years. She was an accomplished pianist and played for many years at St. Andrews United Church of Christ, where she was a member.
She is survived by her first husband, Steven Leslie of Stephens City; her second husband, Forrest Maxwell Puffenberger of Verona; three children, Carrie Leslie Coffman of Verona; Amanda Leslie Chittum of Mount Solon and Dale Leslie of Staunton; nine grandchildren; her father, Hensel Baker, of Weyers Cave; one sister, Jane Young of Bridgewater; and one brother, Kevin Baker of Weyers Cave.
Her body will be cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at St. Andrews United Church of Christ with the Rev. Doyle Payne and Pastor Marilyn Heishman officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul\'s Cemetery.

Iris C. Davis, 69
Iris Cash Davis, 69, of Elkton, formerly of Natural Bridge, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Willow Estates in Rockingham County. She was born April 13, 1940, in Lexington, a daughter of the late Leonard R. Cash and Beulah Tolley Cash. She was married to Ellis W. Davis, who preceded her in death.
A graduate of Natural Bridge High School and Madison College, her lifelong passion was teaching children. Over her 40-year teaching career, 38-and-a-half years of which were at Natural Bridge Elementary School, she garnered numerous awards including Natural Bridge Elementary Teacher of the Year, Rockbridge County Schools Teacher of the Year and was named a National Teacher of the Year award recipient by the National Education Association. In her youth, Iris was a standout basketball player, played tennis and was an avid swimmer. She was also an accomplished pianist and church organist.
Surviving are a son, Michael W. Davis and wife, Mary, of Hinton; a daughter, Lisa D. Lasam and husband, Sonny, of McGaheysville; five grandchildren, Chris Lasam, Josh Lasam, Cara Lasam, Hunter Davis and Teddy Davis; and a special friend, Linda Pollock of Glasgow.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, in High Bridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Natural Bridge, with the Rev. Jason Grimes and the Rev. Tom Yoder officiating.
Because of Iris\'s lifelong love of reading, the family asks that contributions be made to the \"Literary Fund,\" checks to be made payable to Michael W. Davis, C/O Harrison Funeral Home, P.O. Box 931, Lexington, VA 24450. Funds will be used for the purchase of reading books for Natural Bridge Elementary, McGaheysville Elementary and Pleasant Valley Elementary schools.
