Woman Accused Of Attack With Car Appears In Court
Boyfriend Recovering From Near-Fatal Incident

HARRISONBURG - Nearly three months after police say his girlfriend ran him over, William "Pat" Asbury wheeled into the Rockingham County General District Court looking for justice. That process started Thursday with a judge finding probable cause to send the malicious wounding case to a grand jury. The 38-year-old Harrisonburg man was in a wheelchair, his left foot in a boot, his right arm in a sling. Scars serve as a reminder of his head injury and what he could only describe as a "painful" monthlong stay at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. "They all expected me to die," he told the Daily News-Record. "I just kept being stubborn." On May 19, around 10 p.m., police and medics responded to a call for a pedestrian who had been hit by a car on North Valley Pike, about 3 miles north of Harrisonburg near the Lighthouse Motel.
